HR Tips

Welcome to our Select People Solutions Blog. We are a recruiting agency based in Lethbridge Alberta and have been serving this region for 25 years. I’m actually a pretty new addition to the team and came from a background of recruiting operators and trades people for a mining company. With Select, I’m the Professional Division Recruiter and I focus on a whole spectrum of positions varying from office manager roles, executive directors, trades people to plant managers. Our goal is to help companies find the right people for their career opportunities. I graduated with a Marketing Degree from the University of Lethbridge and stumbled into recruiting. For me it’s the perfect mix of meeting and helping people with a splash of marketing to keep my creativity going. In this Blog, I’m looking forward to sharing my take on many FAQ I get from candidates! I’m looking for work… now what? We’ve all be in the situation where we are looking for a new job. It might be for career advancement, your first job or you may be the clock counter waiting until the day is over and now looking for that spark to be back! So what’s next? How do you start your job search? In today’s employment market, things have been a bit slow. Here are a places to start your job search: 1) Job Boards- This is the most typical place to look. Signing up for alerts with Indeed, Monster and/or Government Job Banks are great ways for active and passive job seekers. There are more and more job boards popping up every day. For new grads, a great one is Talent Egg. Also consider checking out industry websites or industry associations, most of them have a job board section. 2) Meet with a Recruiter- Ok, this is a shameless self-plug, but we think we are pretty awesome. With recruiting agencies, dedicated recruiters meet with different people every day and help companies find the right people for their job. Most can’t guarantee that you’ll find work through them, but it’s another set of eyes and ears out there knowing your skill set and what you are looking for. 3) Networking- I remember in university, my professors always stressed how important networking is. Wow, were they right. Networking is a great way to meet new people and learn about different industries. Through meeting with people in an industry you are targeting, it’ll help increase your confidence and know the lingo in an interview. 4) LinkedIn- LinkedIn is a place where you can highlight your professional background, engage in industry conversations and network online. More and more recruiters are using LinkedIn to find top talent. I’ll be writing a follow up on LinkedIn shortly, so stay tuned! Hopefully these few tips will be a good starting point to finding your dream job. If you have any questions for us, please feel free to email them in and I’d love to give my recruiter take to try and help!
